Birthday Boy

Sunburst Matao Birthday

My grandson recently turned  6  and he is a delight to us all. We had been teasing him about having had so many toys at Christmas he wouldn’t need any more. The second time the subject came up he responded, in a gentle voice

“That’s OK Nanny and Poppy if you can’t get me one I don’t mind BECAUSE it’s my birthday and I get to choose dinner. Fish and Chips!!! “

If only we were all so easily pleased!

It goes without saying  we had a lovely evening by the waters edge eating our fish and chips and a swim for the boys.

Of course he received a present and this card, and the verse  that goes with it.

This time I have made a tutorial to make the blog read quicker, for all us busy people.

Happy Birthday Tutorial

Five Fishes

IMG_20151222_091742Hello again,

Hope you have all had a Happy Christmas and a relaxing Boxing Day. We did with two very excited young boys.

Talking of excitement…I am very excited with the new products in the 2016 Occasions Catalogue and the  Sale-A-Bration catalogues so have a sneak peek here. Having purchased the Festive Flower Builder Punch, for the Christmas poinsettias, I was delighted to see a set of stamps using the same punch. Good on SU, they do make an effort to help use the products we purchase in innovative ways.  So needing to make a small boys 5th birthday card I grabbed on to the idea on page 46 of the Handmade from the Heart Occasions Catalogue and created the card above.

The clouds were made using the Tree Builder Punch and coloured slightly with Smoky Slate The waves used the Color Me Irresistible Specialty Designer Series Paper which was sponged with Marina Mist, Sky Blue and Pool Party to give a varied water effect. I then punched the top edge with the 1″ circle punch.

My Fishes were stamped in Tangelo Twist from the Friends and Flowers Set (page 46 Occasions 2016 Catalogue on sale January 5th) and punched with the Festive Flower Builder Punch, in the medium size. The tails were from the joined leaves and just angled slightly before attaching with sticky dots.  The hats used the top of the  Tree punch and the bottoms rounded with the 1” circle punch from some scraps of DSP HIgh Tide (retired) (Placed from inside out). The little pom pom was made from the tiny flower in the Flower Fair Framelits Die set.

Happy birthday I stamped in Memento black, sponged the edges in  Marina Mist and cut out a star fish from the High Tide DSP.  This DSP was also used on the little pocket inside. It was scalloped with the Adorning Accents edgelit (retired) and mounted on Whisper White Card Stock that had also been scalloped, creating the surf.   I just happened to have a rub on Happy Birthday in my odd stash pile so added that.

Hope you like them as much as I do. They were quick and easy to create and make for a Happy card for a Five Year old who does happen to have a fish tank in his bedroom!! Pop over to verses for the inside poem.

What a bedroom mess.

Well! Hello there! Yes it’s me I’m back.

Long story, short version. We have finally purchased and renovated our home, which is what has kept me out of the picture here. What should have been a couple weeks has turned into months. I’m sure all you renovating people know how schedules can go astray.

Exciting news!  I am here with renewed focus and vigor, ready to post some of the new exciting cards from the coming January catalogue. My sneek preview order arrives any day so stay tuned. In between time enjoy this little first birthday version with my favorite owl punch.

Sadly not all products are Stampin’Up, with the star, DSP, and Happy Birthday from my “Other Stash”. The balloon are 3 shapes, heart, star and round in Blackberry Bliss and the Owl in Crumb Cake and Blushing Bride.

The inspiration came from Pinterest where the owl punch cards are numerous. But special mention to Julia Hall from The Crafty Bug for the basic layout.

Enjoy.

2nd Birthday Hungry Caterpillar

With my granddaughters second birthday looming I wanted to make an interactive slider card with her favorite character, the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Taking license with the original story I decide to make him as colorful as possible and have 3 not 1 watermelon to eat.

First I chose my colours for the caterpillar; – Blushing Bride, Melon Mambo, Elegant Eggplant, Rich Razelberry, Blackberry Bliss, Bermuda Bay, Lost Lagoon and Daffodil Delight from my scrap pile and punched them out with the ¾” punch.  I punched a single circle from Whisper White using the 1¼” punch for his head.  The feelers were created with the candle from the Cup Cake Builder Punch and the dots on the top from the Owl Builder Punch, the legs come from the stalk end of the leaf from the Bird Builder Punch all from Basic Black.

Just about to start my Journey!

I glued the discs onto a strip of scrap card slightly overlapping with Multipurpose liquid glue, glued eyes, feelers and drew a mouth with Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker, lightly colouring cheeks with Blushing Bride.

The Whisper White Card Stock was embossed with Decorative Dots then a slit cut across the card. Using a Stampin’ Dimensional, I adhered one to the top of a 5c coin  at the back of the slit then I adhered the second 5c coin on top of the Stampin’ Dimensional so that the two 5c coins were sitting exactly on top of each other ensuring that they could slide side to side along the slit unhindered. The caterpillar was glued to the 5c piece at the Blackberry Bliss disc.

   Ahh! Nearly There.

The three Watermelon slices were triangles cut from Birthday Bash Series papers and coloured withOld Olive and Real Red Stampin’ Write Pens before attaching to the embossed paper with Stampin’ Dimensional. More Stampin’ Dimensional were added to the back before attaching to Melon Mambo. I stamped the greeting in Basic Black from Itty Bitty Banners and cut out with the Bitty Banners Framelites with the Big Shot popping it up on the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Wrapping a ribbon around and adding the 2 figure that was coated with Dazzling Diamonds completed the front that was then glued to the base card in Whisper White.

    Yumm! That Tastes so good.

Inside I created a poem that you can find in verse and a pocket for the much desired Birthday Money.

Hope you enjoy. I know Lauren Did.

Birthday Bash

I think I have been away long enough. Procrastination over! New beginning. After all I’m sure that you are all curious as to what I have been creating! Yes? No? For those with a yes stay posted because this is one of many. Soon to come from my now full folder of cards made.

Today I will share one I made for our April  challenge and it has been posted in Vicki Wrights Newsletter as I actually wonbirthday bash this month

I like this colour combination, partly because the name ‘blackberry bliss’ reminds me of many a day gathering wild ones in the banks of the River Derwent in Tasmania and if you haven’t tried them they are bliss. Yumm!  To make the card I took Hello Honey card stock  and embossed it with the Lucky  Stars embossing folder and then a piece from Birthday Bash Specialty papers was adhered next to it on Whisper White Card Stock. I over laid the join with Hello Honey ribbon. These were then glued to Blackberry Bliss card stock.

I stamped the Balloons from the photopolymer stamp set in the Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey and Smokey Slate, first onto the Whisper White base then 3 onto a scrap of Whisper White which I then fussy cut out without their threads. The bottom of the Whisper White was stamped in the same colours with the confetti stamp from this set.  The 3 fussy cut balloons were popped up on dimensionals and completed with some string bows to each of them and a Hello Honey Bow tied them together.

I popped this ‘balloon posy’ up on some more dimensionals and adhered over the ribbon.

The card was completed with Happy Birthday from Itty Bitty Banners.

I created a verse that you can share for this or other balloon cards.

Hope it brightens your day. Still tasting blackberrys!

BOYS WILL BE BOYS.

I was asked to make this card for a friends 10yr old Grandson who likes music and sport. I find children’s cards hard as the commercial world has taken over their life in some instances. Making cards they can relate too can be tricky. The Minions punched art have been a bit of a life saver in the past but this time I turned to MDS (My digital Studio a  Stampin’ Up! Software Product) As I knew I had some graphics of sport in action there, and this is the result.

The Stamp brush sets (just like a stamp only digital),  that I used for the boys are:

  • Extreme Skateboard
  • Extreme Guitar
  • Extreme Surfboard
  • Game Day Soccer

Athletic Department for the words as well as Delight in the Day Designer Series.  The balls were from Great Sport and the HAPPY BIRTHDAY in the Rockwell Extra Bold size 22 Text. I over laid it all with Vintage Overlays Texture that had been colored randomly with Night of Navy, Daffodil Delight, Mossy Meadow and Cherry Cobbler.

I pooped the balls and Happy Birthday up on dimensionals for a bit of interest. Created this verse for inside the card. This front was printed on Whisper White, adhered to Night of Navy and mounted on the base card Daffodil Delight.

Hope you are inspired by it.

Thanks for stopping by.
