Beautiful Butterfly

Better late than never! Been a busy week with thelast weeks of Plastic free July. Don’t think I came close really. It’s amazing when you stop to really watch how much plastic there is in your life. Cerainly no more supermarket bags for this girl!

What have I been busy with. One adventure is sewing bags for Boomerang bags, where we re use donated materials and create free bags for anyone.

If you don’t know about them head to their facebook page and see for yourself. Each bag makes a difference.

My other activities have centered around a general craft room tidy and a bedroom paint out – not quiet finished yet.

So last week the the Crafty Creations made these lovely cards using the Butterfly Basics Stamp Set. July 21 CC

Hope you enjoy them.

CC 21st july

Happy Crafting

Crafty Creations July 1st

Wow half way through the year!                              Starting Christmas cards soon!

We will be glad when the elections are over and we can move back to the larger room. Pr-elections have been held at the Community Center for the past three weeks. In the meeting room the light and cramped space does make card making a bit difficult. This week I had to go in one door, through the children’s playground and in the side door to help the ladies at the end of the table. Talk about get your exercise!

We made two different cards over two weeks so we could take our time stamping with the Watercolor  Wings and Lotus Blossom (R)  stamp sets.  These are two or three step stamping sets that give depth and colour to the images and are only restricted in design by imagination!!

So I think we have all done a splendid job and risen to the occasion with laughs and positive attitude.

Back to normal next week. When we will be making a slider card!

Crafty Creations Washi Tape

Well girls! That was fun and how exciting are these lovely cards.

I do have to credit Craftyperson for the first card idea.

Crafty Creations

Our first card was made by using the Large leaf  from  the Botanical Builder Framelit Die, to create a window in the Basic Black CS.  Washi Tape was layered on to a separate piece of card stock then glued behind the leaf. The Left hand side  was cut with the long leaf die.

This was then popped up highlighting the Washi tape. This was  then adhered onto Whisper White CS and  3 small flowers and Words from Expression Natural Elements glued with sticky dots to the front.

Supply List

Our second card the girls used their own Washi Tape and a couple of tiny butterflies

Fluttering Butterflies.

Thanks for dropping by.

We had a larger class today at Crafty Creations at the Community Center, with two new ladies attending. They, like most  people, were a bit unsure at the start but quickly settled in and surprised themselves with their lovely cards. Well done  ladies!

We quickly put our heads to the task of creating, with the very versatile stamp set, Timeless Textures as the background stamp from the Occasions Catalogue. Fun was had stamping on and stamping off just to create that right depth of background on Whisper White Card Stock.

Next came the butterflies, Papillon Potpourri, an older favorite of mine, and the Butterfly Thinlits die.  Add a sentiment Simply Wonderful (Retired) and some pearls and… voila card created. The card stock we used were Hello Honey, Cajun Craze and Mossy Meadow with matching inks as well as Smokey Slate and Memento Black inks.

I just received the fantastic glitter tape for my freebie and it is so much shinier in reality I can’t wait to use it.

Supply List

Irresistible Butterflys

Do you still have some  Irresistibly Yours DSP paper to use? I do, so decided to combined some with my favorite butterflies.

I used So Saffron Ink to sponge the DSP, mounted it on to So Saffron Card Stock then cut three 3¾cm strips from So Saffron Card Stock to go under this which were glued to the Whisper White card stock that was embossed with the Spring Flowers Embossing Folder and mounted on to more So Saffron Card Stock. What a sentence still following?

I cut out the Whisper White Card stock on the Big Shot with the Butterflies Thinlit Die and then a finer one in vellum, keeping it intact,  which was then glued under the top one. Gently curved the wings, popped it onto the DSP with sticky dots and attached rhinestones to finish.

The sentiment from Butterfly Basics was stamped in So Saffron then punched with the Scallop Oval and attached with dimensionals.

TRIPLE CHALLENGE

What is a triple challenge I hear you think?

Challenge 1. Well for me today’s blog is the first one.  I have been invited by Miss Vicky to be part of the creative blog hop where following links you can see, learn, admire and recreate so much about the craft you love. Links and answers to questions all participants are asked are at the bottom of this blog. Thanks Vicky for taking me by surprise and showing faith in my creations.

Challenge 2. I am part of a small group of people at Caloundra Community Center called Crafty Creations and Vicky has organised a monthly card challenge. 1--January-2015You can see them here on Vicky’s face book page Stamps,Paper and Stuff.  Any one is welcome to join in. This is our first one. This is my creative contribution and not a minute too soon – dead line at end of week. See procrastination abounds.

Challenge 3. I have also chosen this card for a clients request for a Birthday Card for her friend who is 89. I hope the tactile feel will help with her enjoyment of the card. Now you know, think no more. Save the grey matter for creating, not wondering!

THE CARD.Butterfly challenge main card

I used Whisper White and Melon Mambo card stock with the new Painted Blooms DSP.

The small butterflies were from Papillion Potpourri the large from the Thinlits Butterflies and the sentiment Butterfly Basics. You can purchase the bundle for both of these at reduced price off them when purchased individually, on my Stampin! Up! web.

Butterfly card top section    The little green frame was cut from the DSP paper and glued to the Whisper White which had been stamped prior to attaching.

I glued the tulip covered DSP on the bottom third before embossing, then I cut out the circle.

Large ButterflyWhen I attached the Whisper White butterfly I just moved it down a fraction so that the Melon Mambo one peeped through.  Attaching a couple of Rhinestones completed the front of the card. It was then attached to Melon Mambo card stock and personalised inside.  Hope you enjoy it.

Now for  some serious stuff.
These questions are what you will read on each of the blogs. So interesting finding out what motivates others.
1.  What are you working on?
Being the newbie it has been this blog, and ALL that is involved from watermarks, uploads, links, media extras and I’m still not there. Being a new distributor I find there are lots of challenges and some steep learning curves but with each step I feel more empowered to make this really work. There is soooo much help in the Stampin’Up! Community there really is no excuse not to succeed. Well maybe ill health, but touch wood I’m great.

2.  How does your work differ from others in your genre?
As yet, thank goodness, it’s not work, and I hope it never becomes that. I’m retired you know!! Each person brings their entire life to the creative process as do I, so in that respect as no one else has had my life, I do differ from others, if only in small ways. I love the quote

“Be Yourself, everyone else is taken.”

3.  Why do you create what you do?
Mostly for the sheer pleasure the tactile aspect of cards creates in me. All things paper are in my blood (see about me) so my starting point is here. There is a sense of satisfaction, with a rye smile, when I have made a card that I have not cased from Pinterest or elsewhere. Just sensing what works and what doesn’t as I create is very satisfying. Then when I’m not 100% happy with the effort and recreate the same with changes. Viola my spirit sores! I love the fact that one formula I not longer have to deal with and that’s all the colour matching. It’s has been done with Stampin Up! and that makes the process so much more relaxed.

4.  How does your creative process work?
I have always been a collator of images and words. Having been a student that loved projects at school.(I still have some of those books.) Some times an idea will be fermenting away in that grey matter for weeks before I actually start to create ie., the above card 3 weeks of mulling over. By then I will have a petty good idea of the stamps, colours and layout I want to use. Of course it still can go wrong. The idea doesn’t measure up to the ideal. This little fellow was my first attempt at the above card. One I didn't want Both nice cards but I like first one better.

I have moved on from creating a lot of different hobbies that I am capable of, due mainly  to space restrictions and “been there done that” syndrome.

Creative Blog Hop happens every week and being a newbie I don’t know others yet but please pop over and visit these pages.

I feel very relaxed with Leonies blog, lots to see here and an Aussie too. http://www.stamp-a-latte.com/creative-blog-hop/

Also try Sue Erikson blog she has a delightful card at the moment using the Petals stamp brush set. http://www.soggystamper.com/2015/01/creative-blog-hop

Thanks for taking the time to read all this. Now you know a little more about me. Happy Stamping. Naomi

Quick and Easy

Have you played with the Butterfly Thinlits yet? They are simply beautiful. I have just had a quick play and came up with this one. (Similar to one posted by Katherine at Little Things.)

I like the clean simple line.

I stamped the greeting Thinking of you from the Wetlands Clear Stamp Set on to Whisper White and punched it out with the Oval scallop punch. TheButterfly final final finaln taking the Smoky Slate card Stock I used the Edgelits Adorning Accents  as an embossing tool and created the embossed edge  1/3 way up the paper. I then cut the fancy edge with the same Adorning Accents.

Again with the Big Shot I cut out the butterfly. Putting it aside I glued a piece of whisper white to the back of the front flap matching the edges. Then carefully – so as not to have glue showing on front of card – glued the butterfly back into the space.

Attached the sentiment with dimensionals and tied a piece of white ribbon across the front to finish.

You may note that I have managed to make a Logo using Pic Monkey and some help from Miss Vicki. I have always used this combination of N, P and C with the little butterfly on the end of the C for anything I have made, but this is the first time I have used it digitally.  The learning just keeps on going! I thought the black looked better on this card but I have white as well you can see it on the next blog.

Bye for now. Take care
